Many would have hoped that several quiet roads would have been rebuilt or paved this year when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo - Addo announced to Ghanaians that this year will be a "Year of the Roads". The excitement now seems to have turned to pain, as expectations have yet to be met. In Takoradi in the Western Region, history has taken a new turn.
As a region that contributes around sixty (60) percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and for President Nana Akufo - Addo, has admitted that the region's road network has been bad, the reward expected by residents is to have your roads made.
But this has been a mirage, especially for road users in the capital, Takoradi.
Today this taxi driver [whose name has been omitted] took on the challenge of fixing some potholes and ruts in the Paa Grant roundabout. He could no longer bear the frustration, and thus resorted to using his car to carry crushed concrete and rubble to fill them. He had gone to do the first load and did the unloading and repair work on his own.
He went to the trouble to arrange these concrete materials neatly and pour some fine sand over them. This is the main road leading to the port of Takoradi, GHACEM, and other industrial sites in the city. His effort has caused many residents to praise and celebrate him for his selfless contribution.
The National Democratic Congress held a press conference just a few days to expose some of the unreal projects the NPP has used to campaign ahead of the 2020 general election. The opposition party made it clear that the ruling party do not respect the chiefs and the good people of the region looking at their contribution to the region brings on board.
